چکیده

Wireless multi-hop networks are expected to become important building blocks of future communication networks. With increasing deployment and utilization of such networks, analytic performance models for the analysis of important metrics, in particular throughput, will become necessary. The deployed medium access control (MAC) mechanism has a significant impact on this metric, and Carrier Sense Multiple Access Schemes based on Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) is the underlying approach for an important class of MAC protocols, in particular including IEEE 802.11 type of networks. This paper analyzes performance relevant events in a carefully selected set of multi-hop scenarios for CSMA-CA based wireless networks. The observations from the simulation experiments are used to formulate directions for future analytic modelling approaches for these type of multi-hop networks.

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

Throughput Improvement in Wireless Multi-Hop Ad-Hoc Networks Using Load Control

IEEE 802.11 MAC is the most commonly used protocol in multi-hop ad-hoc networks which need no infrastructure. In multi-hop ad-hoc networks based on IEEE 802.11, since nodes try transmitting their packets at every possible slot, there is a high packet loss probability. This degrades network performance attributes such as throughput and fairness. In this paper, we focus on achieving the maximum t...

Multi-channel Medium Access Control Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey

Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. Hence, using multiple channels can significantly ...

Improving Performance for CSMA/CA Based Wireless Networks

Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) based wireless networks are becoming increasingly ubiquitous. With the aim of supporting rich multimedia applications such as high-definition television (HDTV, 20Mbps) and DVD (9.8Mbps), one of the technology trends is towards increasingly higher bandwidth. Some recent IEEE 802.11n proposals seek to provide PHY rates of up to 600 ...
